Engineered for Re-Roofing…

One of the best features of Gerard Stone-Coated Steel Roofing is that it was engineered for re-roofing.  It is lightweight, only 1.3 lbs. per sq. foot, and will not add any significant weight to the structure. It is only 1/3 the weight of asphalt shingles.  It will not conform to an uneven surface below it, and can be installed to “encase” the old roof.  This allows for installation over an asphalt shingle roof without the need to tear-off the old roof in most cases.

 Removing the old asphalt shingle roof is necessary if your re-roofing with an asphalt shingle.  Asphalt shingle warranties state clearly: “Must be applied over a smooth flat surface”.  An asphalt shingle will conform to the uneven surface of an existing asphalt shingle roof.

The shingle will be much more susceptible to cracking,  blowing off, and premature failure.  Our metal shakes and shingles do NOT conform to the irregular surface of an asphalt shingle roof and in fact, it can hide imperfections in the roof deck, existing roof and roof framing.
